The purpose of this study is to use CiteSpace to visually analyze the literature related to diabetes and medical insurance in more than 30 years, and reveal the current situation, hot spots and trends of diabetes development in the process of medical insurance. Using the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database as the data source, relevant research literature from January 1996 to August 2024 was retrieved. CiteSpace software was used to visualize and analyze data on authors, institutional collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence, clustering, emergence, timelines, and highly cited literature. A total of 1168 relevant literature were retrieved, and 617 were included after manual screening. The author’s collaborative network shows that the distribution of research power is relatively even, and cooperation needs to be strengthened; In the institutional cooperation network, institutions in the same province have closer cooperation. Key words co-occurrence and cluster analysis show that research focuses on diabetes and its complications management, health literacy and influencing factors, medical insurance and cost control, data analysis and technological innovation. The analysis of highly cited literature shows that the research topics involve chronic disease management, medical expense burden, patient self-management, and other aspects. Future research should continue to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation, use new technologies to focus on diabetes prevention and health management, and improve the effect of diabetes prevention and control.
