Abstract

The rapid creation of technological systems, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in almost every field, including journalism, is changing the entire news sector. AI is becoming an invaluable tool for journalists in data mining as well as improving their craft. AI enhances efficiency and productivity in news generation. An amazing amount of news products can be created in collaboration with humans and AI. Technology, however, and its rapid advancement creates numerous challenges including every type of problem, as well as, ethical dilemmas. There are problems that are virtually unprecedented. The age of AI is also changing journalism’s fundamental principles of accuracy, trust, and copyright, among others. Moreover, the fully automated generation of news products raises important issues including bias, manipulation, lack of accountability, and inaccuracy. Given the increasing use of AI in newsrooms, the roles of AI in the news production process, the loss of human professionalism, and the degree of editorial control need to be addressed. In this paper, I focus on the integration of AI in news production, the collaboration of humans and AI in news production, and the integration of AI in the news production process and its positive and negative impacts. Key challenges include balancing efficiency and ethics, as well as the alignment of AI with the journalistic principles of truth, objectivity, and public trust. This paper addresses such challenges and the future of journalism exacerbated by the presence of AI.
