Abstract

This paper collects all the readers’ comments of 11 Mo Yan novels translated by Ge Haowen in English on Amazon.com, and utilizes tools such as Dictionary’s Jieba (stuttering) Segmenter and TextBlob for segmentation, integration and preprocessing of the comments’ contents, and then utilizes TF-IDF algorithm to count the word frequencies of the readers’ comments, and then uses the PatternAnalyzer Sentiment Analyzer to classify the processed The sentiment of the text is divided, and finally the emotional attitudes contained in all the featured comment sentences are analyzed by using the confusion degree as the standard, combined with the LDA theme model, to summarize the cross-cultural communication effect of Mo Yan’s works among Western readers. The results show that the data of readers’ comments on Mo Yan’s works have the regularity of social science, the readers’ rating star rating and reception degree of overseas translations of Mo Yan’s works in English translation are high, and the effect of cross-cultural communication is good. The focuses of the positive emotional comments of overseas readers on the English translations of Mo Yan’s works are mainly related to the reading experience, translation, subject matter of the works and the author. The 11 English translations of Mo Yan’s works are well received by the Western general English readership, with about 90% of the readers having a positive acceptance of them.
